The V&A - One of my Favourite Museums

Photos Alex Harris
There are literally hundreds of wonderful museums in London but chief among my favourites is The Victoria and Albert Museum. With a collection covering much of the last 2000 years, the V&A exhibits international art and design in nearly every medium. There really is something for everyone, and regular special exhibits and new acquisitions ensure there is always something new to see.

I developed these recipes for Ribena Plus, a range of no added sugar fruit drinks and concentrates enriched with vitamins A, C and E or calcium. Smoothies are a healthy way to start the day or fill the ‘hungry gap’ between meals. It’s easy to keep the ingredients to make them on hand in the freezer.

Apricot and Onion Chicken

Once upon a time, several years ago, when my husband and I were first together, he invited his parents round to dinner for the first time. That was twenty years ago, and I was still new to England, still getting used to the different stoves, ingredients and measurements, so my husband’s invitation threw me into a complete panic.

My Garden in Autumn

My garden didn’t do as well as it normally does this year. It’s definitely been better in previous years, but we started out with drought this spring and ended up with so much water by the middle of summer that many of the vegetables just rotted away. I use the term ‘summer’ very loosely. We hardly saw the sun for weeks here in England, and it was downright cold a lot of the time.

A Family Wedding

As regular readers will know, my family and I were in Canada in July of this year, so I was especially grateful to be able to travel back to Ontario at the beginning of this month for my cousin’s wedding.

Red for Autumn 2012

This fall, fashion is embracing the dark side - richer, warmer colours dominated the catwalk and of all the deeper shades around, red is one of the strongest trends. Contrary to what many women believe, there really is a shade of this wonderful colour that suits everyone. From rich berry reds and burgundies to bright poppies, no matter what your colouring, you can definitely wear red.

Delicious Brie and Basil Strata

Photo Alex Harris
I love making stratas and French toast casseroles for breakfast or brunch. Not only are they delicious, but they are made the night before and baked in the morning, so you can serve something really impressive without having to get up at the crack of dawn.

Do you feel under pressure to buy the latest toys for your children? You aren’t alone.
The makers of Ribena Plus have released the second chapter of the Ribena Plus Play Report looking at the effect the modern world is having on play. It reveals that parents today feel under pressure from all sides to spend money on toys rather than time playing with their youngsters.

Pumpkin Cake for Labour Day

Happy Labour Day everyone! Even though I’ve lived in the UK where Labour Day isn’t celebrated for over twenty years now and the official first day of the season is twenty days away, September 1st always signals the start of fall for me. And as I’m actually in Canada as I write this, I’m definitely in the spirit of things this year! The leaves are just starting to change colour here in Ontario, and the weather is gorgeous. In celebration, I thought I would publish one of my favourite pumpkin recipes, my friend Heather’s pumpkin cake.
