Dress Your Home For Success

Here are some tips for dressing your home for success - especially handy when unexpected guests are due to arrive, but great advice for every day too.  

 1.  Tidy is best, but desperate times call for desperate measures

Just a quick daily flit round to pick up the clutter can make a huge difference.  However, if things have gotten out of hand as they are wont to do and you are pressed for time just get rid of the glaringly obvious stuff.  Although stuffing things in cupboards is clearly not a long term solution, in an emergency it is a great short term one, provided you go back when you have more time and actually go through the cupboard to de-clutter it!  Make sure you never use a guest room closet for this.  There is nothing like remembering the closet is a complete mess just moments before guests arrive to stay! (Please don’t ask me how I know this!)

Spring Cleaning Tips

We have had the most gorgeous weather here the last few days. It really has put me in the mood for spring cleaning so I thought I would share some of my favourite hints and tips for looking after your home. 

Descaling the Kettle

For a lovely scale free kettle without the use of chemicals, put about a cup of plain white vinegar in the bottom of the kettle, fill it up with water, boil it and rinse thoroughly. Follow with plain water in the kettle and re-boil it a couple of times just to avoid any residual vinegar taste. If your kettle is still not scale free at this point, repeat the whole process one more time.

Need a Little Glamour in Your Life?

Does your wardrobe consist of all dark colours to avoid the stains of little hands? Was the last time you got dressed up so long ago you can’t remember it? Have you forgotten the last time you felt glamorous and sexy?

The trouble is, when most people think of glamour the first thing to spring to their mind is probably their favourite Hollywood star. However, you don’t have to live up to the beauty ideal the media are promoting to be glamourous, and it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money either. Glamour is unique to each individual. It’s not an age, a colour, a height or a size. Some of the most glamourous women I have met simply do not fit the media’s beauty mould. Anyone can be glamourous, and it really can change your life.

Years ago I read a book called ’Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway’ by Susan Jeffers. It’s a really encouraging read, with great strategies to help you deal with your fears and move forward with your life. It has led me to some wonderful adventures, and this was one of them.

Sweet and Spicy Zucchini Muffins

My wonderful friend Swathi, who you may already know as one of my fellow co-hosts at the Hearth and Soul hop, recently asked me to do a guest post for her. I was very pleased to be asked, and decided to share one of my favourite muffin recipes. My Sweet and Spicy Zucchini Muffins are made with lots of wholesome ingredients. Although the pretty green flecks in these colourful muffins do give away the fact that they contain healthy stuff, even kids seem to love them.

Happy St Patrick's Day!

This young lady is the reason I have Irish blood.  She’s my Grandma on my Dad’s side, one Mary Elizabeth Eddis from Belfast, Northern Ireland. She left Ireland in 1920 when she was not quite as old as the century, with a group of girls heading to Canada to work in the mills at Galt, Ontario, Canada.  She left behind her parents and several brothers and sisters.
